COMPOSITIONS: GRID, TYPOGRAPHY, AND IMAGE The basis for developing dynamic visual images resides in understanding the principles of two dimensional organization; objective analysis of visual form; an awareness of conditioned response behavior; fostering visual experiences through exploration, experimentation, and investigation; developing a process for organizing a two-dimensional space.
Study 1: Form Analysis and the Inherent Forces
Design three examples of the five inherent forces of the square with point and line in an 8 inch
square format. Incorporate an inch grid structure. Apply divisions of space which are implied and non-literal interpretation of the inherent forces.
Study 2: Shape,Typography, or Image
Design three examples of the five inherent forces of the square utilizing point and line with the addition of shape, typography, or image. Incorporate an inch grid structure.
Study 3: Shape,Typography, and Image
Design three examples of the inherent and/or dynamic forces of a rectangle utilizing point, line, shape, typography, and image. Incorporate an inch grid structure.
Study 4
Design 3 examples of the inherent and/or dynamic forces of a rectangle utilizing
point, line, shape, typography, and image in an 8 x 11 inch format. Incorporate
a ½ inch grid structure. This area is in the approximate height to width ratio of the
square root two rectangle.
