Magazine Design System: Identity/Logo Design
MAGAZINE IDENTITY Applying typographic theories and principles, students will assess a magazine design system and explore typography through identity development. Considering form structure and style, students will create a wordmark for a magazine that communicates meaning and begins to build a visual language. MAGAZINE ASSESSMENT- CHOSEN MAGAZINE: Gothic Beauty · Choose a magazine of interest; obtain at least one printed issue (purchase if necessary) · Assess the magazine's strengths and weaknesses considering visual language, layout/grid structure, content organization, etc. · Identify the audience and intended theme(s) · Create a new name for the magazine MAGAZINE WORDMARK · Define style and tone to be communicated · Based on the magazine assessment, gather visual inspiration to help guide the new design direction and create a tone board · Sketch wordmark concepts (consider black + white and color) · Analyze, refine, and finalize the wordmark
