Cincinnati Landmark Icon Development

This assignment was to develop a symbol system focusing on the research, process methodology, symbol grid/logic, legibility/scale, user comprehension testing, project documentation, writing and example application, taxonomy, and the design of symbols with special focus on symbol systems. I was to identify a communication problem within the context from which an icon system could be developed to inform a visitor. I chose to focus on places of interest a tourist to Cincinnati would possibly visit.

Process & development...

Root Determinant- Explore the flexibility of your icon system by selecting one of your icons and changing it's referent. To do this, utilize your understanding of ideograms and rebus to either physically integrate a supplementary icon that changes the meaning, or add an icon near to it that alters the meaning. The new additions to your icons must follow the same visual character as your current icon system.
